Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game
The Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game was established in 2009 as a tribute to the Bradley Soccer player, who was killed in a 2007 house fire just days before the start of his sophomore year at the school ... Traditionally played as a spring exhibition game, proceeds from the game have contributed to the funding of the Danny Dahlquist Memorial Scholarship at Bradley University ... Notre Dame is participating in the memorial game for the second time after serving as Bradley's opponent in the inaugural exhibition April 8, 2009 at Shea Stadium. Additional participants in the event have included Louisville (2010), Michigan State (2011), Kentucky (2012) and Northwestern (2013), as well as the Creighton and Illinois State women's soccer teams as part of a doubleheader for the 2010 event ... To contribute to the Danny Dahlquist Memorial Scholarship, contact the Bradley University Office of Advancement in the Hayden-Clark Alumni Center at (309) 677-3159 ... As is tradition for the game, Bradley also will accept donations for the Danny Dahlquist Memorial Scholarship at donation stations on the Shea Stadium concourse Tuesday night.
About The Braves
Bradley returns 13 lettermen, but just five starters, from the 2013 squad that went 14-7-2 overall, won the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship ... Among the 12 lettermen lost, Bradley graduated 10 seniors from the first class in program history to earn three NCAA Tournament bids, including MVC Player of the Year Wojciech Wojcik and four-year starting goalkeeper Brian Billings ... The Braves are led by sophomore forward Christian Okeke, the 2013 Valley Freshman of the Year, and an experienced back line led by senior Zach Kovacevic and junior Grant Bell ... Fourth-year junior Shay Niemeyer is the top returning goalkeeper with 185 career minutes played to his credit.
Series History
Though Tuesday's game will be the second exhibition meeting between Bradley and Notre Dame, the two programs have met five times in counting games ... Notre Dame holds a 3-2-0 all-time series lead ... All five games were played between 2000 and 2005 with the Irish winning the last two meetings in shutout fashion, 2-0 in 2003 and 1-0 in 2005, both in South Bend ... Both of Notre Dame's visits to Bradley came during the 2-year stay in Morton in 2001 and 2002.
