CHICAGO - Bradley freshman Aimee Manfredo will play for the singles White Flight championship Sunday, while the Braves duo of Ariel Dechter and Irinka Toidze will compete for the doubles White Flight championship after a strong showing during Saturday's second day at the Chicago State Invitational.
Bradley's players combined for a 12-5 record Saturday, 10-4 in singles action and 2-1 in doubles play. In addition to Sunday's two championship matches, Saturday's effort put the Braves into each of the three singles flights consolation finals.
Manfredo outlasted Northern Illinois' Christina Alvarez in the singles White Flight semifinal (6-4, 0-6, 10-8) to reach Sunday's flight championship against Lewis' Megan Nguyen. In the doubles White Flight, Dechter and Toidze led their semifinal match versus the Chicago State duo of Huckabee/Lloyd, 4-2, when the Cougars team withdrew due to injury. The Bradley tandem will face Northern Illinois' Malkin/E. Youel in Sunday's flight championship match.
Bradley's second freshman, Alexa Brandt, won both of her singles matches in straight sets Saturday in the consolation side of the singles Green Flight and she will play in Sunday's consolation championship match against Mindiyarova (Lewis).
Also in the Green Flight, sophomore Ariel Dechter's bid for the flight title came up short with a third-set, 10-8 loss in the semifinals. Dechter will face Chicago State's Hanna Pangestu in Sunday's third-place match. Fellow sophomore Ashley Thai earned her first singles win of the weekend in the third round of the Green Flight, taking a 6-2, 6-3 decision against Green Bay's Stephanie Londre.
While Manfredo plays for the White Flight championship Sunday, Toidze will play for the flight's consolation championship after winning both of her Saturday matches. Senior Cassia Wojtalik also won a pair of matches Sunday in the singles Black Flight, putting her into the consolation final Sunday. After winning her flight opener Friday, Elizabeth Przystawski dropped both of her Saturday matches.
Overall, Bradley's players combined for a 12-5 record Saturday, 10-4 in singles action and 2-1 in doubles play.
