PEORIA, Ill. -- After a two-week break, the Bradley men's and women's cross country teams are back in action Friday afternoon at the 33rd annual Brissman-Lundeen Invitational in Rock Island, Ill.
The Braves will send six men and 13 women to Augustana College's 33rd annual Brissman-Lundeen Invitational, which will be held Friday afternoon at Saukie Golf Course. The women's 5K is scheduled for 5 p.m., while the men's 8K race will follow at 5:45 p.m.
Friday's 5K will be the first of the season for the Bradley women, who ran three miles at the Bradley Intercollegiate earlier this month and a 4K at the season-opening Western Illinois Early Bird back on Aug. 29.
Freshman Molly Leveille (North Liberty, Iowa/Iowa City West) had the top three-mile time among the Bradley entries in Friday's women's 5K at the Bradley Intercollegiate back on Sept. 12. Leveille, who was 27th in the field, posted a time of 18:23.1. Fellow freshman Jennifer Luksan (West Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) was on Leveille's heels at the Bradley Intercollegiate, crossing the line in 28th at 18:24.7. Seven of 14 Braves entered in the women's 5K are freshman and four individuals will be running for the first time in 2014.
On the men's side, sophomore Taras Didenko (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) was the top finisher at the Bradley Intercollegiate among the six Bradley runners scheduled to run Friday. Didenko took 17th with a time of 26:20.1, while junior Thomas Razo (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) was close behind in 22nd at 26:40.5. Only one freshman is slated to run for the Bradley men's squad, with junior Joe Fritzsche (Mt. Zion, Ill./Mt. Zion) the only Brave scheduled to make his 2014 debut.
The Bradley men's and women's cross country teams will be back in action Friday, Oct. 3 at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
