KOHLER, Wis. – Freshman Daniel Lensing (Spring Park, Minn./Orono) fired a one-over par 73 to tie for third, while the Bradley men's golf team took fifth in the team standings at the season-opening Whistling Straits Invitational.

The Braves turned in their lowest round of the tournament with a 16-over par 304 and finished fifth in the team standings with a three-round score of 918.  Youngstown State claimed the team title with a total of 886 to top second-place Valparaiso (894) for top team honors.  South Dakota State was third at 910, while tournament-host Loyola (917) edged the Braves by one shot for fourth.  Bradley was 15 shots better than Missouri Valley Conference rival Northern Iowa (6th – 933) and 21 shots ahead of seventh-place Chicago State (939).

After rounds of 72 and 74 Monday in his first collegiate rounds, Lensing shot a one-over par 73 at the par-72 Whistling Straits Irish Course Tuesday.  He tied for third in the individual standings at 219 and was three shots behind individual medalist Garret Buckley (216) of Loyola.

Fellow Bradley newcomer Lyle Burns (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour/Parkland C.C.) also had a strong debut.  Burns carded his lowest round of the tournament with a two-over 74 and was 12th overall at 228.

Senior Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) was four shots behind Burns at 232 after shooting a 79 Tuesday.  The 79 extended Trolia's streak of consecutive rounds in the 70's or better to 11 and moved him into eighth in school history with his 77th career sub-80 round.

Junior Garrett Cox (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) matched his second-round score with a 78 on the final day and was 28th at 239.  Sophomore Bobby Jacobs (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) rounded out the team scoring for the Braves with a 79 and finished three back of Cox at 242 in a tie for 31st.

The Bradley men's golf team is back in action Monday and Tuesday at the Derek Dolenc Invitational in Edwardsville, Ill.
