PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior defender Grant Bell (Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls Community) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after scoring a pair of goals during the season-opening Hotels at Grand Prairie Classic.
Bell doubled his career goal-scoring total during the first week of competition by scoring the game-winning goal in Friday's 3-2, double overtime win against San Jose State and the tying goal in the second half in an eventual 4-3 loss to UNLV in Sunday afternoon's tournament championship game. He netted the game-winning golden goal against San Jose State at 109:41 for the latest goal by time in Bradley soccer history. Sunday he scored on another header in the 51st minute, pulling the Braves into a 3-3 tie against UNLV. A business management and administration major, Bell owns a 3.23 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Bell and the Bradley soccer team are back in action Thursday, hosting Xavier in a 7 p.m. match at Shea Stadium to conclude a season-opening, three-match home stand.
