ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Senior Lyle Burns (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour/Parkland C.C.) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week according to an announcement by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
Burns earned Valley Golfer of the Week honors for the first time this season and second time in his career after he tied for third at the Austin Peay Invitational in Hopkinsville, Ky., to wrap up the fall season earlier this week. He opened tournament play with a then season-best 68 at the par-72 Links at Novadell Monday morning and finished the first day with a five-under 67 as he shot the lowest 36-hole score in school history (135).
Burns closed out the tournament with a two-under 70 Tuesday and finished at 11-under 205 to break his own school record for the lowest 54-hole score in program by an impressive five strokes. He shot a then school record 210 in April at the Bradley Invitational.
The pair of rounds in the 60's on Monday gives Burns a school record nine career sub-70 rounds and he helped the Braves card the second-lowest 54-hole team score in school history (867). He finished the fall with a 72.33 stroke average.
The Bradley men's golf team will open its spring schedule Feb. 15 & 16 at the Carlton Oaks Invitational in Santee, Calif.
