Box Score MACOMB, IL - Bradley saw one streak come to an end and another extended as host Western Illinois earned a 1-0 victory against the Braves (4-7-0) Monday afternoon at John Mackenzie Alumni Field.
While Bradley suffered its third consecutive shutout loss for the first time since 2009, the Leathernecks (2-7-1) also snapped a 7-game home winless streak against their local rival. Bradley was 6-0-1 in its last seven visits to Western Illinois.
Bradley finished the day with an 18-12 advantage in shots, the first time the Braves outshot their opponents this season, but the Leathernecks took advantage of a questionable possession to score the game's only goal in the 29th minute. The scoring play began when the Leathernecks appeared to play the ball out of bounds on the right sideline, but after the flank player chested the ball back into play from in front of his team's bench, his service into the penalty area eventually fell to Jacob Bevan. Bevan was able to collect and beat Bradley keeper Logan Ketterer from 14 yards out for his third goal of the year at 28:27.
Western Illinois freshman keeper Bruce Corrie made eight saves, including a diving stop at the post of a Will Kidd shot in the eighth minute, for his first career shutout.
The Braves, who have dropped three straight since opening Missouri Valley Conference play with a 1-0 home win Sept. 25 against Loyola Chicago, will return to league play for their next four games, beginning with a Saturday afternoon visit to Evansville.
