Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior Leti Lerma (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) collected 19 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and five steals off the bench to help power the Bradley women's basketball team to a convincing 87-47 victory over visiting Eureka Saturday night at Renaissance Coliseum.
The Braves (2-3 overall) got off to a slow start trailing the Red Devils 5-4 just over to four minutes into the contest, before Lerma started an 11-0 Bradley run with a layup. Bradley went on to lead 18-9 after the first quarter. Eureka forced 12 first-half Bradley turnovers, including seven in the second quarter and the Red Devils were able to trim what was a 14-point BU lead to four at the half with Emily Camden beating the halftime buzzer with a three-pointer.
After a 6-for-21 shooting performance (28.6 percent) in the second quarter, Bradley opened the second half by making five of its first seven shots in the third quarter. Lerma and sophomore Tamya Sims (Milwaukwee, Wis./Oak Creek) each scored four points during a 10-0 Bradley spurt to open the period which pushed the lead to 48-34.
The Braves shot 61 percent from the field in the third quarter and scored the final 11 points of the stanza after Eureka had cut the Bradley advantage to seven at 52-45 with 2:42 to play on a Krysten Wallace three-pointer. Sophomore Anneke Schlueter (Ulm, Germany/Max-Weber-Schule) hit back-to-back three-pointers to help the Braves close out the third quarter with an 18-point lead (63-45).
Bradley held Eureka without a field goal for the entire fourth quarter and the final 12:42 of the night. The Braves scored 35 of the final 37 points and cruised to the 87-47 victory in the first regular-season meeting between the two teams since 1980-81.
Lerma had season highs of 19 points, 13 rebonds, two assists and a career-best five steals in 24 minutes off the bench to pace three Bradley players in double figures. Schlueter matched a career-high with four three-pointers and finished with 15 points as she became the first Brave to hit a three-pointer in each of the first five games of a season since 2008-09.
Sims made 6-of-9 shots from the field and finished with 14 points, six boards and two blocks in 21 minutes. Ten of the 12 Bradley players who saw the court scored, with the Bradley reserves combining for 47 points including 18 in the final period. Sophomore Haley Van Cleave (Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead) and freshman Vanessa Markert (Mt. Sterling, Ill./Brown County) helped highlight the night for Bradley reserves with career-highs of nine points each. Markert added three assists and three blocks in a season-high 15 minutes.
Junior Whitney Tinjum (Stacy, Minn./Chisago Lakes/Washington State), Bradley's leading scorer entering the contest, had just one point in seven minutes of action, while starting point guard Kat Yelle (Geneva, Ill./Geneva/Ohio) missed her first game as a Brave.
Bradley held Eureka to 12 percent shooting in the second half and 31 percent for the contest. Camden made 3-of-7 three-point attempts and led the Red Devils with 14 points. She was joined in double figures by Luci Weis, who scored 12 points.
The Braves open the month of December with a trip to Chicago for a Wednesday night matchup with Chicago State at 7 p.m.
