Box Score WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State used a 19-5 run to close the first half and held Bradley without a field goal for an 11-minute span as the Shockers cruised to a 66-36 victory over the Braves in Missouri Valley Conference women's basketball action Sunday afternoon at Charles Koch Arena.
Bradley scored a season-low 36 points against the top defensive team in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Shockers took advantage of 28 BU turnovers, 17 in the first half, and shot 62.5 percent in the second half to pull away. Wichita State, which won its 15th consecutive home game and conference-best 20th game of the year, scored 36 points off Bradley turnovers and held the Braves to 34.2 percent shooting on the afternoon.
A Michelle Young (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) basket with 10:26 to play in the first half pulled Bradley within four points at 14-10, but it was the final hoop of the period for the Braves. Wichita State outscored Bradley 19-5 to close the half and took a 33-15 lead at the break.
Bradley scored on its first possession of the second half to end an 11-minute stretch without a field goal, but the Shockers answered with 14 consecutive points to extend the lead to 30 (47-17) with just under 14 minutes left. Wichita State went to top the Braves 66-36.
After shooting 26 percent in the first half, Bradley shot 42 percent in the second half. Wichita State was even better offensively in the second half, connecting on 15-of-24 shots (62.5 percent) in the final 20 minutes.
Alex Harden led Wichita State with 26 points, eight rebounds, three assists and five steals to pace three Shockers in double figures.
Whitney Tinjum (Stacy, Minn./Chisago Lakes/Washington State), Fantasia Vine (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) and Tamya Sims (Milwaukee, Wis./Oak Creek) led Bradley with six points each.
Bradley opens the final home stand of the 2014-15 season Friday with a 7 p.m. game against Loyola at Renaissance Coliseum. Friday's contest will be the team's annual Pink Game to help raise breast cancer awareness.
