GULF SHORES, Ala. – Bradley managed just four hits off Murray State and the Racers roughed up Bradley pitching for 11 hits and seven runs as the Racers topped the Braves 7-1 Saturday afternoon at the Sand Dollar Classic.

The Braves scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first without getting a hit.  Senior Brittany Burgess (Utica, Ill./St. Bede) was hit by a pitch and stole second.  After advancing to third on a Murray State error, Burgess scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of freshman Maria Schroeder (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) as Bradley grabbed an early 1-0 lead.

Senior Alyson Spinas-Valainis (Davenport, Iowa/Assumption) held the Racers to two hits in the first three innings before Maggie Glass hit a solo homer with one out in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 1-1.  Mallory Young followed a hit by pitch and single with a two-run double to left center as Murray State went in front 3-1.

Bradley left a pair of runners on in the bottom of the fourth and Murray State added two more runs in the top half of the fifth to push the lead to 5-1.  Shelbey Miller drove in the first run of the frame with a two-out double to right center and a double by Jocelynn Rodgers drove in another run.

Murray State added two more runs in the top of the seventh on the second home run of the game by Glass, who hit a two-run shot to give the Racers a 7-1 advantage.

The Braves had three hits in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn't push a run across as Murray State went on to win the game 7-1.

Spinas-Valainis took the loss in the circle for Bradley, giving up five runs in 4.2 innings of work.  Mason Robinson was the winning pitcher for Murray State, surrendering one unearned run in a complete game effort.

Bradley continues play at the Sand Dollar Classic Sunday morning with a 10 a.m. game against Eastern Kentucky.
