ST. LOUIS - Bradley sophomore Ariel Dechter (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein H.S.) is the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office Tuesday evening.
Dechter continues to re-write the Bradley Women's Tennis records book and added to her single-season records for singles and combined wins by posting a 3-1 combined record this past weekend. Dechter lost only three games in her two matches at No. 2 singles in Bradley's weekend duals versus Chicago State and IPFW, while splitting her two No. 2 doubles matches with teammate Irinka Toidze. Dechter has improved to 23-7 overall in singles action this season and her 15-7 doubles mark with Toidze gives her 38 combined wins this season. With her three wins this past weekend, Dechter (70-51) became just the 15th player in school history to accumulate 70 career combined wins.
Both of Dechter's singles and combined victory totals already are single-season school records and her current .731 combined winning percentage is 204 points better than Bradley's single-season record. Even if she were to go a combined 0-22 in singles and doubles in Bradley's 11 remaining matches, Dechter still would finish with the second-best combined winning percentage in school history (current players excluded).
Bradley (8-5) will return to action next week with three spring break matches in Louisiana, beginning Monday evening at Southeastern Louisiana. The Braves will visit Southern Tuesday and New Orleans Wednesday, before returning home for a 2-week break in advance of their Valley opener April 3 versus UNI at the David Markin Tennis Courts.
