PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore outfielder Kelly Kapp (Freeburg, Ill./Gibault Catholic) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after collecting hits in all five games of the UCF Knights Invitational to extend her hit streak to seven games.
Kapp hit .368 in five outings in Orlando and stole two bases to push her conference-best steal total to 11. Kapp, who has a conference-leading 29 hits this spring, collected hits in all five games. She opened the weekend with a 1-for-3 effort against Kent State and followed with a 1-for-3 game at #15 Central Florida. After a 1-for-4 performance against Michigan State Saturday, Kapp was 4-for-9 with one run and one RBI in a pair of games Sunday. She was 2-for-4 with a run in a 4-3 win against Kent State, before closing the week with a 2-for-5 game with one RBI and two stolen bases in an extra-inning rematch with Michigan State. A nursing major, Kapp owns a 3.02 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Kapp and the Bradley softball team open Missouri Valley Conference play this weekend, starting a three-game series at Southern Illinois with a noon doubleheader in Carbondale, Ill., Saturday.
