Meet the Braves: Shane Garland

Shane Garland Named Intern Of The Year

PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior runner Shane Garland (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) has been named Bradley's College of Engineering & Technology Intern of the Year announced recently.
 
A mechanical engineering major, Garland interned at NuScale Power in Corvallis, Ore., working with the nuclear design company on the development of nuclear reactors.  As part of the internship he served as a mechanical engineering intern in the primary systems group, which focused on the chemical control, startup and shutdown and many safety systems of nuclear reactors currently under development.
 
During his seven months with NuScale, Garland's projects included parameter optimization, drawing of systems and building plant operation.
 
A 2012 MVC Scholar-Athlete after he finished eighth in the 800 meters at the Valley Outdoor Championship as a sophomore, Garland was a four-year letterwinner on the men's cross country/track & field team.  He earned a spot on the Bradley Athletic Director Honor Roll all four semesters at Bradley.
