BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Senior Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) is tied for sixth in the individual standings and the Bradley men's golf team is tied for sixth in the team standings after two rounds of play Saturday at the Hoosier Invitational.
Trolia was one of two Braves to card 2-under 69 in the second round as Bradley matched its lowest round of the year and tied for the fifth lowest round in school history with a 286 in the afternoon. The Braves finished the day just five shots out of the top three in the field at the par-71 Indiana University Golf Course.
After opening Saturday's action with a 71 in the opening round, Trolia followed it up with a 2-under 69 in the afternoon to match his lowest round of the spring. The 69 was Trolia's school-record seventh career round in the 60's as he finished the day two shots out of a three-way tie for the individual lead 140.
Senior Danny Masrin (Palatine, Ill./Jakarta International School) shot his two lowest rounds of the season, chasing a first-round 71 with a season-low 70. He is one shot behind Trolia in a tie for 10th (141) and three shots behind the individual leaders entering Sunday's final round.
Junior Lyle Burns (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour/Parkland) recovered from a 79 in the opening round with a 2-under 69 in the second round. Burns, who has shot in the 60's in three of his last five rounds, posted his fifth sub-70 score of the year and is one three individuals in program history with five or more career rounds in the 60's. He finished the day tied for 39th overall at 148.
Freshman Matthew Specht (Munster, Ind./Munster) opened the day on a strong note with a season-best 72. Specht is tied for 58th overall at 150 after shooting a second-round 78. Junior Garrett Cox (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) rounded out the team scoring for the Braves at 161 (87th), firing rounds of 81 and 80 Saturday.
Wisconsin shot a 5-under 279 in the afternoon and was the top team Saturday, finishing at 565 to edge second-place Toledo by three shots (568). Oakland and Miami (Ohio) are nine shots off the pace in a tie for third at 574 and Cincinnati rounds out the top five at 575.
Bradley and tournament-host Indiana are tied for sixth at 579, five shots out of third and the pair were three shots better than Eastern Michigan and IUPUI, which are tied for eighth at 582. Xavier completes the top 10 at 584.
The Braves are six shots ahead of 11th-place Dayton (585) and own a nine-shot advantage on I-74 rival Illinois State (12th – 588). Western Illinois and Drake closed Saturday's action tied for 13th (594), while Evansville (15th – 597), Youngstown State (16th – 699) and IPFW (17th – 617) round out the field.
