EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Bradley sophomore Ariel Dechter (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein H.S.) was rewarded for her record-breaking season Thursday night by being named the school's first-ever all-conference women's tennis player.
Dechter was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Tennis All-Select Team Thursday night during the league's awards banquet in advance of this weekend's MVC Championship. Boasting a 3.92 cumulative grade point average as an accounting major, Dechter also was one of 10 players voted to the 2015 MVC Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete Team Thursday.
Dechter will enter Friday's Valley Tournament quarterfinal match versus Northern Iowa boasting Bradley single-season records for overall singles wins (29), singles wins by a sophomore, #2 singles wins (14), single-season combined singles and doubles wins (47) and combined wins by a sophomore, as well as a share of the single-season records for MVC singles wins (4) and #2 doubles wins (11). She also paired with Irinka Toidze for the best single-season team doubles winning percentage (.652, 15-8) in Bradley history.
Dechter was joined on the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team by a trio of teammates who earned honorable mention recognition: Carly Miles (Greentown, Ind./Eastern H.S.), Ashley Thai (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley H.S.) and Cassia Wojtalik (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.). Miles, who owns a 3.73 cumulative GPA in health science, becomes a 3-time Valley Scholar-Athlete after earning first-team notice in 2014 and honorable mention recognition in 2013. Thai sports a 3.68 GPA in medical laboratory science and Wojtalik owns a 3.36 GPA in Marketing.
