SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. – Junior Lyle Burns (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour/Parkland) is tied for fifth and the Bradley men's golf team is fourth in the team standings after the first two rounds of the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship.
The Braves shot 301 in both rounds Monday, closing out the first day fourth overall at 602. Wichita State has a commanding lead on the field at 3-under 573 after rounds of 287 and 286. Northern Iowa is eight shots ahead of Bradley and 21 back of Wichita State in second at 594, while Evansville is just five shots ahead of the Braves in third at 597.
Burns was one of two Bradley players to fire both rounds in the 70's, carding scores of 73 and 74 to finish the day tied for fifth at 147. Louis Cohen Boyer of Wichita State had an impressive 5-under 67 at the par-72 Club at Porto Cima in the first round and is at 8-under after a second-round 69 (136) to sit atop the individual standings.
Junior Garrett Cox (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) had a strong day for the Braves as well, following up a first-round 77 with a season-best 72. Cox is two shot behind Burns in a tie for 10th at 149.
Freshman Daniel Lensing (Spring Park, Minn./Orono) matched his lowest round of the year and had the low round of the day for Bradley with a one-under 71 in the first round. Lensing is tied for 21st at 153 heading into Tuesday's final round after an 82 in the afternoon.
Senior Danny Masrin (Palatine, Ill./Jakarta International School) rebounded from a first-round 82 to fire a second-round 76 and is tied for 33rd overall at 158. The second-round 76 moved Masrin into a tie with Dave Wettlaufer for second in school history at 93 career sub-80 rounds.
Fellow senior Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) improved by one shot in the afternoon, carding a 79 after an opening-round 80 and will begin the final round one shot behind Masrin in a tie for 35th (159).
The Braves have a two-shot lead on fifth-place Southern Illinois (604) and are 11 shots better than both Missouri State and Loyola, which finished the day tied for sixth (613). Drake is eighth in the team standings at 625 and Illinois State completes the field in ninth at 629.
The final round of the 2015 MVC Men's Golf Championship will tee off Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
