PEORIA, Ill. -- The Bradley men's golf team continues the busiest stretch of the spring schedule this weekend, taking part in the Hoosier Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., Saturday and Sunday after reaching the halfway point of the spring slate with last week's Bradley Invitational.
The Braves will be playing for the third consecutive weekend, joining 16 other teams in the Hoosier Invitational at the par-71 Indiana University Golf Course. Play begins Saturday morning with a 7:30 a.m. (CDT) shotgun start and the opening day will feature 36 holes. Sunday's final round will also feature an 8 a.m. (CDT) shotgun start. BradleyBraves.com will provide links to live scoring for all three rounds of the Hoosier Invite.
Bradley is one four Missouri Valley Conference teams in the field and will be joined by Valley rivals Evansville and Drake along with I-74 rival Illinois State. Both Drake and Evansville took part in last week's Bradley Invitational, while the Braves faced Illinois State on March 28 in the I-74 Individual Challenge.
Big Ten Conference foes Indiana and Wisconsin also help highlight a tournament which features four Mid-American Conference squads in Dayton, Eastern Michigan, Miami (Ohio) and Toledo. Cross-town rivals Cincinnati and Xavier are included in a field which also features IUPUI, IPFW, Oakland, Western Illinois and Youngstown State.
Junior Lyle Burns (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour/Parkland) is coming off the lowest 54-hole score in program history, claiming medalist honors at the Bradley Invitational with a six-under 210 last weekend to win top individual honors by seven strokes. Burns owns a 70.3 average over his last four rounds and is now second on the team with a 74.88 season stroke average.
Senior Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) has fired 18 consecutive sub-80 rounds and enters the weekend with 97 career rounds in the 70's or better after he tied for seventh at the Bradley Invitational. He needs three sub-80 rounds to become the first Bradley player to reach 100 in his career and has a team-best 74.90 stroke average this spring.
Fellow senior Danny Masrin (Palatine, Ill./Jakarta International School) finished in the top 20 of a tournament for his team-leading sixth time this season at the Bradley Invitational, where he tied for 14th. Masrin has finished in the top 20 in six of seven events this year and leads the team with a 74.71 stroke average, which would be the lowest at Bradley since Andy Mickelson's school record 73.28 average in 2002-03.
After the Hoosier Invitational, the Bradley men's golf team will return to the course April 20 & 21 at the Beu/Mussatto Invitational in Macomb, Ill., for the team's final outing before the MVC Championship later this month (April 27 & 28).
