Box Score OMAHA, NE - Capping a game that saw the hosts register the third-most shots by an opponent in Bradley's 29-year program history, Omaha (6-1-0) netted the game-winning golden goal with one second left in the second overtime for a 3-2 victory against the Braves (3-4-0) Saturday night at Caniglia Field.
Finishing off a scrambled corner kick in the closing seconds, Felipe da Silva chested in the service by Logan Mendez at 109:59 for the dramatic game-winner. The goal came on Omaha's 37th shot of the night, the most ever against a Jim DeRose coached Bradley team and the most against the Braves since Milwaukee set the opponent record with 45 shots in a 9-0 win Sept. 23, 1990.
Omaha very nearly missed out on a chance for the game-winner after the Braves took a 2-1 lead early in the second half on Grant Bell's first goal of the season. Playing without three regular starters due to injury, Bradley held the 2-1 advantage until the 87th minute, when Noor Hamadi finished off a scoring sequence at 86:50.
Pressuring the Braves from the outset, Omaha broke through in the 27th minute when Mendez scored his third goal of the year at 26:59 to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Bradley answered in the 40th minute, however, when freshman Austin Bell scored his first career goal with a finish at 39:57. Jacob Taylor and Grant Bell both were credited with assists on the play.
Grant Bell capitalized on a miscue by Mavericks keeper Josh Christensen to give the Braves the 2-1 lead at 49:24.
Bradley keeper Logan Ketterer recorded a career-best 10 saves for the Braves. In addition to the 37-11 shots advantage, Omaha owned a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks.
After falling to 0-4 away from home this season with its third consecutive loss, Bradley will try to extend its 3-game home winning streak Friday when it opens Missouri Valley Conference play against in-state rival Loyola Chicago. The 7 p.m. Homecoming game at Shea Stadium is part of The Hotels at Grand Prairie Soccer Series and will feature a postgame fireworks show.
