PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore defender Jacob Taylor (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week according to an announcement by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Taylor played all 180 minutes in two matches last week, helping the Bradley Soccer team split a pair of home games. He helped Bradley to its fourth consecutive 1-0 home win Friday as the Braves opened Missouri Valley Conference play with a 1-0 blanking of Loyola.
Sunday against Air Force, Taylor helped Bradley limit the Falcons to just four first-half shots. The Braves extended their home defensive scoreless streak to a Shea Stadium record 438-minutes, 6-seconds before an Air Force goal in the 73rd minute. Bradley had not surrendered a goal at home since the 2014 MVC Tournament semifinals and the home scoreless streak was the third-longest in program history. A mechanical engineering major, Taylor owns a 3.70 cumulative grade point average.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing
Taylor and the Bradley Soccer team are back in action Friday, closing out a three-match home stand with a 7 p.m. contest against Gonzaga at Shea Stadium.
