NORMAL, Ill. – The Bradley women's golf team shot its lowest round since last fall with a second-round 299 and is tied with Bowling Green atop the team standings after day one at the season-opening Redbird Invitational.
Sophomore Ally Scaccia (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) is tied for third overall and the Braves have three of the top 14 in the field after two rounds of play at the par-72 Webiring Golf Course. Bradley's second-round 299 was the lowest round of the day and tied for the 13th lowest round in program history.
The Braves were tied for eighth after shooting an opening round 313 and will enter Monday's final round tied with Bowling Green for first in the team standings at 612.
Scaccia was one three Bradley players to card a 77 in the opening round and her second-round 72 was the best effort by the Braves on the first day of the 2015-16 season. She is tied for third in the field at 149, three shots off the lead.
Senior Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./Doniphan-Trumbull) is also in contention, finishing the day tied for fifth overall at 150. She followed up a first-round 77 with a 73 in the afternoon to close the day one shot back of Scaccia.
Fellow senior Allison Walsh (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Mt. Prospect) also opened the season strong with rounds of 77 and 76 to close Sunday's action tied for 14th at 153.
Sophomore Grace Henderson (Peachtree Corners, Ga./Blessed Trinity) matched a career-best with a second-round 78 after shooting an 82 in the morning. She enters Monday final round at 160 in a tie for 48th. Freshman Chloe Horton (Coral Gables, Fla./Ransom Everglades) rounded out the team scoring for Bradley at 163 (T62nd), following up an 84 in her first collegiate round with a second-round 79.
Bradley also had a pair of individuals in the field, with freshman Frankie Saban (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) and Sydney Shaw (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) closing the day tied for 45th and 71st, respectively. Saban had the best first round for the Braves with a 76 and is at 159 after an 83 in the afternoon. Shaw carded rounds of 83 and 81 in her first two collegiate rounds.
The Braves are tied with Bowling Green at 612 heading into Monday's third and final round, one shot ahead of third-place Northern Illinois (613). Boston College is two shots back in fourth at 614. Tournament-host Illinois State is fifth in the team standings at 620, followed by Southern Illinois (T6th – 621), Ohio (T6th – 621), Butler (8th – 623), Loyola (9th – 627) and Oakland (10th – 632) to round out the top 10 of the 16-team field.
The final round of the Redbird Invitational is scheduled to tee off at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning.
