Michael Ward Named COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior runner Michael Ward (Cardiff, South Wales/Llanishen) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after pacing the Bradley men's cross country team at Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind., Saturday.

Ward was the top finisher among MVC competitors at Pre-Nationals to help lead the Bradley men's cross country team to an eighth-place finish. Ward finished 16th in the field with an 8K time of 24:21.6 to finish 59 spots ahead of his Pre-Nationals finish from last year and help the Braves place ahead of two nationally ranked teams along with three other squads receiving votes in the latest national rankings. A biochemistry major, Ward owns a 3.76 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

The Bradley men's cross country team will run Friday afternoon at the Illini Open in Champaign, Ill., before competing at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship Saturday, Oct. 29 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
