Ward Named MVC Male Cross Country Athlete of the Week

After leading the Braves to another impressive showing on the national stage, junior Michael Ward collected Missouri Valley Conference Male Cross Country Athlete of the Week accolades for the second time this season, announced on Tuesday.

In a race that featured eight nationally-ranked schools and a total of 11 teams receiving votes in the USTFCCCA national poll, Ward crossed the finish line in 16th place at the Pre Nationals in Terre Haute, Indiana on Saturday. The junior improved his finish by 59 spots from a year ago at the same meet, running the 8K course in a time of 24:21.6.

As a team, Ward helped the Braves finish eighth of 41 schools at the meet as Bradley topped two nationally-ranked teams and another three receiving votes in the latest poll. The strong performance by the Braves helped propel the team into the national poll for the first time in school history as Bradley is now receiving 10 votes.

Ward and the Braves now turn their attention toward the Missouri Valley Conference Championship as the team looks to defend its title from a season ago. The conference crown is on the line on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
