As the Bradley cross country teams prepare to defend their Missouri Valley Conference Championship next weekend, the squads are set to compete in one final regular-season meet at the Illini Open on Friday.

The Bradley women's team has 14 entries for the 5K race, which is set to begin at 4 p.m. Last season, the Braves placed first of four schools competing at the meet after having three runners cross the finish line in the top six and five in the top 20. Senior Katie Wampole is the team's top returner from last year's race, finishing the course in 17th place with a time of 19:05. Sophomore Sara Piller also returns after clocking in right behind Wampole with a 19th-place finish in 19:07.82.

The men are set to feature six runners on Friday with the 8K race beginning at 4:40 p.m. Senior Steffen Uhrich finished as the team's top runner a season ago and is the Braves' lone returner who competed last year at the meet, placing ninth overall with a time of 26:07.0

The Braves will be joined by the host Illini at the meet as well as runners from Butler, Eastern Illinois, Illinois State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern and Purdue.

Following Friday's meet, both Braves squads are set to put their MVC titles on the line next weekend with Northern Iowa hosting the conference championship on Saturday, October 29.
