Michael Ward Named COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior runner Michael Ward (Cardiff, South Wales/Llanishen) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after pacing the Bradley men's cross country team at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational.

In a meet which featured seven nationally-ranked schools and an additional four receiving votes in last week's USTFCCCA national poll, Ward anchored the Bradley men's cross country team to a 10th-place finish at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational Friday. He placed 21st overall (of 202 runners) in the five-mile race, posting a time of 24:08.2 to help the Braves finish ahead of three ranked programs in No. 23 North Carolina State, No. 30 Florida State and No. 30 Texas. A biochemistry major, Ward owns a 3.76 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

The Bradley men's cross country team hosts the Bradley Invitational Friday at Donovan Park (3 p.m.).
