PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior Michael Ward (Cardiff, South Wales/Llanishen) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after earning a spot in this week's NCAA Cross Country National Championship with a ninth-place NCAA Midwest Regional finish.

Ward's ninth-place finish is the best in school history at regionals, while he also broke his own 10K record with a time of 30:33.7 (15 seconds faster than the previous standard).  The first Bradley male runner to reach the NCAA Cross Country Championship, Ward helped the Braves to a program best fifth-place team finish at the NCAA Regional.  A biochemistry major, Ward owns a 3.76 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Ward will run in Saturday's NCAA Championship at 11 a.m. (CST) in Terre Haute, Ind.
