SPRINGFIELD, MO - Luck was not on Bradley's side Tuesday in the opening round of the 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Men's Soccer Championship.  Missing on close scoring chances in each half, and failing to get the benefit of the whistle on an apparent foul in the penalty area late in the second half, Bradley's season came to an end with a 2-0 loss to Drake Tuesday afternoon.

Junior forward Richard Olson generated three golden scoring chances Tuesday, but the Braves came up empty on all three.  In the 19th minute of a scoreless game, Olson dribbled through the right flank and chipped a shot toward the back post.  Drake keeper Ian MacLeod got just enough of the ball to slightly redirect it away from the net, but it fell to a wide open Alex Ciaramitaro, who missed wide left on his one-time attempt from six yards.

Drake capitalized on its only shot on goal of the first half in the 27th minute when James Pendrigh buried a free kick from 20 yards out for his first goal of the season.

Bradley maintained dangerous possessions throughout the second half and Olson created a great opportunity to equalize in the 58th minute with a penatrating possession to the left endline, where he sent a pass across the front of the face of the goal.  Suad Suljic got a clean head to the ball from six yards, but his attempt sailed high.

After setting up Bradley's two best scoring chances of the day, Olson appeared to be the beneficiary of Frank Bak's service in the 73rd minute when the Bradley sophomore played a long cross into the penalty area from the left sidelin.  As Olson attempted to track the ball toward open space on the right side of the box, he was wrapped up around his midsection by a Drake defender and held in place as the ball continued out of bounds for a goal kick.

The Bulldogs put the game away in the 90th minute when Mueng Sunday converted a penalty kick at 89:25.  The insurance goal resulted from a counter attack after Bradley put all 10 players into the offensive zone on a free kick by Braves keeper Logan Ketterer.  Left alone to defend the counter, Ketterer was called for a red card penalty by taking out the Drake forward as he attempted to dribble around the Bradley keeper toward the right post.  Sunday caught substitute keeper Nathan Wiseby cheating to his right and buried his PK attempt for his second goal of the season.

Drake advances to the MVC Men's Soccer Championships quarterfinals and a 3 p.m. game Wednesday against Evansville.  The winner will take on No. 2 seed SIU Edwardsville in Friday's 3 p.m. semifinals.  Host Missouri State will battle No. 4 seed Central Arkansas in Wednesday's second quarterfinal with regular-season Valley champion, #14 Loyola Chicago waiting in Friday's 6 o'clock semifinal.  The championship game is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday at Allison South Stadium.
