Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
VALPARAISO, IN – Junior Anneke Schlueter (Ulm, Germany/Max-Weber-Schule) was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line and scored a career-best 23 points to help power Bradley to a 67-56 road win at Valparaiso Monday.

Schlueter became the 12th player in program history to make 10 or more free throws in a game without a miss and finished with a career-best 23 points in addition to tallying five rebounds, two assists and three steals in the victory.  Freshman Chelsea Brackmann (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) added 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks off the bench.

Bradley (3-7 overall) trailed 13-12 after the first quarter and the Braves grabbed the lead in the opening moments of the second period.  Valparaiso (5-6 overall) grabbed a 21-20 lead on an Amber Lindfors layup with 7:33, but Bradley held the Crusaders without a field goal for nearly six minutes.

The Braves scored the next 10 points with Brackmann starting the spurt with a pair of free throws.  Sophomore Vanessa Markert (Mt. Sterling, Ill./Brown County) added seven points and Schlueter capped the run with a three-pointer.  The 10 consecutive points was part of a 14-2 Bradley run as the Braves took a 36-26 lead into the half.  Brackmann and sophomore Emily Eshoo (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) combined for 16 points in the second quarter.

Bradley scored the first four points of the third quarter and outscored Valparaiso 20-5 during a near 10 and a half minute stretch spanning from early in the second to the third quarter to build a 40-26 advantage less than two minutes into the second half.

The Bradley lead stood at 53-42 early in the fourth, before Valparaiso made a push.  Schlueter's second of three three-pointers on the night was Bradley's first basket of the fourth and gave the Braves a 55-47 edge nearing the midway point of the period.  The Crusaders pulled within five (55-50), before another Schlueter three made it a three-possession ball game (58-50) closing in on five minutes to play.  The Braves made 9-of-12 free throws down the stretch and surrendered just two Valpo baskets in the final four minutes to close out the 67-56 road victory.

Markert grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds to help Bradley to a 48-35 rebounding advantage.  Senior Leti Lerma (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) collected six points and eight rebounds in the second half en route to eight points and nine boards.  The Braves were 23-for-32 from the free throw line.

Five Valparaiso players scored in double figures, paced by Meredith Hamlet's 13 points.  Bradley held Valpo to 31.1 percent shooting, including 2-for-19 from three-point range.

Bradley will close out the non-conference portion of the schedule Thursday with a 1 p.m. game at Illinois-Chicago.
