PEORIA, IL - Three Bradley student-athletes will be recognized with Outstanding First-Year Student Awards during the annual Rising Star Dinner Friday night in the Hayden-Clark Alumni Center. Women's Basketball player Emily Eshoo, men's track runner David Shadid and men's basketball player Luuk van Bree will be among Friday's honorees.
The Outstanding First-Year Student Award recipients were selected based on their first semester of involvement in organizations, participation in the First-Year Seminar, community service in Peoria, 2015 Fall semester grades and overall positive attitude.
A freshman from Naperville, IL (Benet Academy), Eshoo is enrolled in Bradley's award-winning Academic Exploration Program and earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the 2015 Fall semester. Playing in a reserve role in her 22 games to date, Eshoo is averaging 2.8 points in 9.0 minutes per game and she ranks fourth on the team with 11 3-point field goals.
A middle distance runner from Peoria, IL (Notre Dame H.S.), Shadid is majoring in communications and also earned a spot on the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the 2015 Fall semester. He set the school record in the indoor 400 meters (49.36) Feb. 6 at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational.
One of four international players on the men's basketball roster, van Bree came to Bradley from Venray, The Netherlands (Canarias Basketball Academy). Majoring in history, he also earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll during the 2015 Fall semester. On the court, van Bree leads all Missouri Valley Conference freshmen with 41 3-point field goals and he is the second-leading freshman scorer (8.5 ppg) and third-leading freshman rebounder (4.3 rpg) in The Valley.
In addition to their performance in competition and in the classroom, the trio of student-athletes are engaged in the Athletic Department's numerous community service activities. To date, Bradley student-athletes, coaches and staff have contributed nearly 2,000 hours of volunteer service since June.
