ST. LOUIS - Bradley junior Ariel Dechter (Mundelein, IL/Mundelein H.S.) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Dechter became the fourth player in Bradley history to achieve 100 combined singles and doubles wins during Saturday morning's 5-4 win at IUPUI, then moved into third place on the program's all-time wins list with two more victories during Bradley's 6-1 triumph Saturday afternoon at Butler. Dechter teamed with Irinka Toidze for her two weekend wins at No. 2 doubles and she earned a pair of straight-sets wins at No. 1 singles against the Jaguars and Bulldogs.
Dechter has helped Bradley to a 4-2 start to the dual match season by posting a 3-3 singles record and 3-2 doubles mark thus far. Including the fall tournament season, Dechter is 10-7 in singles action and 13-6 in doubles play during the school year, boosting her career records to 57-35 in singles and 45-40 in doubles for an overall combined career record of 102-75.
Teri Chan (2003-07) owns the school career records with 73 singles victories and 115 combined wins, while Ashley Morris won a school-best 58 career doubles matches and ranks second with 110 combined wins.
The Braves will try to extend their winning streak during a home dual match doubleheader Saturday against South Dakota (9 a.m.) and Northern Kentucky (1 p.m.) at the Clubs at River City North. The team's current 4-match winning streak is its longest since winning four straight Feb. 15-28, 2009 and the Braves have not won five dual matches in a row since a 7-match streak spanned the final dual of the 1996-97 season and the first six matches of the 1997-98 campaign. Admission is free for all Bradley Tennis home matches.
