PEORIA, Ill. -- The Bradley women's golf team will travel to the state of Texas for the first time since February 2014, taking part in a pair of tournaments in the Dallas, Texas, area during spring break.
The Braves will open the week Monday and Tuesday at the Oral Roberts/Stephen F. Austin Spring Break Invitational at the par-72 Trophy Club Country Club in Trophy Club, Texas. Monday's action will feature two rounds of play with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start and Tuesday's final round will also tee off at 8:30 a.m.
Bradley will also play in a one-round event Wednesday, taking part in the Cardinal Challenge hosted by Lamar at the par-72 Club at Champions Circle in Fort Worth, Texas. The Cardinal Cup will get under way Wednesday at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start.
Six other Missouri Valley Conference teams will join the Braves in the ORU/SFA Invitational Monday and Tuesday, with Illinois State, Indiana State, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois and Wichita State making up a large portion of the 20-team field. Tournament co-hosts Oral Roberts and Stephen F. Austin will be joined by Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas State, Bowling Green, Creighton, Fairleigh Dickinson, Georgetown, Houston Baptist, Louisiana-Monroe, North Dakota State, SIU Edwardsville and Texas-Rio Grande Valley in the largest field Bradley will face in 2015-16.
The Cardinal Challenge field includes Valley rivals Southern Illinois and Indiana State along with Fairleigh Dickinson, Incarnate Word, Lamar and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The two spring break tournaments are the only outings in the month of March with Bradley playing its lightest March schedule since 2012.
The Braves are coming off back-to-back fifth-place finishes to open the spring schedule as Bradley turned in the two lowest 54-hole scores in program history in each of the last two outings.
Senior Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./Doniphan-Trumbull) and sophomore Grace Henderson (Peachtree Corners, Ga./Blessed Trinity) both tied for 15th to help pace the Braves at the 14th annual Rio Verde Intercollegiate in Rio Verde, Ariz., in the Braves last tournament.
Lemek leads the MVC with a 74.14 stroke average and has carded 23 consecutive sub-80 rounds dating back to last year for the third longest streak in program history. She has finished in the top 10 in five of eight events this year and placed in the top 20 in 34 consecutive tournaments. Lemek needs four rounds to tie the Bradley career record for rounds played at 114 held by Breanne Neufeld.
Henderson is coming off the lowest 54-hole score of her career (224) and owns a 75.8 stroke average over her last five rounds.
Senior Jenna Roadley (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Sturgeon Heights) was named MVC Golfer of the Week back on Feb. 24 after she tied for third at the Amelia Island Intercollegiate in Jacksonville, Fla., to open the spring schedule. Roadley's 74.0 stroke average this semester is tied for the best on the team and she is now seventh in school history with 50 career sub-80 rounds.
