CHICAGO, Ill. – Senior Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./Doniphan-Trumbull) is one shot off the individual lead and the Bradley women's golf team is second overall after Sunday's opening round of the 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Championship.
The Braves carded their lowest round in a month with a first-round 299 and sit in second in the team standings, two shots behind pre-championship favorite and two-time defending champion Wichita State which shot a 297 Sunday at the par-72 Harborside International Golf Center Port Course. Bradley is seven shots ahead of third-place Indiana State (306) and eight shots better than fourth-place Loyola (307) in the team standings.
Bradley's 299 was its lowest at a MVC Championship since opening the 2014 conference championship with a 293 and tied for the 18th lowest round in program history.
Lemek broke her own school season record with her 29th sub-80 round of the year, firing an opening round 72. She is one shot behind individual leader Brooke Cusumano of Southern Illinois, who shot a one-under 71 on the first day of play.
Bradley has two of the top three in the individual with sophomore Ally Scaccia (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) one shot behind Lemek in a tie for third after a first-round 73. Scaccia's 73 Sunday was her best round since the opening day of the spring schedule back on Feb. 22.
Senior Jenna Roadley (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Sturgeon Heights) is just one shot out of the top 10, shooting a 76 Sunday and will enter Monday's second round tied for 14th. Roadley tied a career-high with her 17th round in the 70's in 2015-16.
Sophomore Grace Henderson (Peachtree Corners, Ga./Blessed Trinity) also carded her 17th sub-80 round of the season, turning in a 78 to close the day in a tie for 21st. Henderson is just one shot out of the top 20 in the field.
Senior Allison Walsh (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Mt. Prospect) is tied for 32nd at 80 to round out the scoring for the Braves.
