Box Score PEORIA, Ill. – Junior Kelly Kapp (Freeburg, Ill./Gibault Catholic) collected two triples in a 3-for-4 outing and drove in three runs in addition to scoring the game-winning run in the seventh on an Erika Hansen (Fillmore, Calif./Moorpark) hit off the wall in left as Bradley topped Evansville 5-4 Sunday afternoon at Laura Bradley Park to take the season series.
Kapp had given Bradley (11-18 overall, 6-3 MVC) a 3-0 lead with a two-out, bases loaded triple in the bottom of the second and the Braves led for most of contest.
Evansville (14-18 overall, 2-7 MVC) got on the scoreboard with one out in the top of the third on a solo home run by Michal Lucket, but Bradley answered with a run of its own in the bottom half of the inning. Hansen singled to open the inning and senior Alyson Clemente (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley) followed with a double. Hansen scored to give the Braves a 4-1 lead on a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore Maria Schroeder (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich).
Bradley starter Julie Kestas (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) held Evansville to just three hits through the first five innings and the Braves took a 4-1 lead into the sixth before running into trouble. In the sixth, Chandra Parr led off with a double and a two-out walk proved costly as Susan Norris tied the game at 4-4 with a three-run homer to right center.
The Braves left a pair of runners on in the sixth and Evansville was unable to take advantage of a one-out single in the top of the seventh as the teams went on to the bottom of the seventh knotted at 4-4.
Kapp got things started in the seventh for Bradley with a one-out triple over left fielder Kristin Keopke's head. With two outs, Hansen drove in Kapp from third with the game winning run as she ripped a 1-2 pitch off the left field fence for her second hit of the contest and give Bradley the 5-4 walk-off victory.
Kestas took the no decision, despite holding Evansville to six hits in 6.1 innings of work. Junior Jaelen Hull (Clifton, Ill./Bishop McNamara) picked up the victory for the Braves, giving up one hit in two-thirds of an inning out of the bullpen to improve to 3-8 on the year.
Bradley will continue a season-long, seven-game home stand Tuesday when the Braves host SIU Edwardsville at 4 p.m. at Laura Bradley Park in the final non-conference game of the 2016 season.
