ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Sophomore runner Michael Ward (Cardiff, South Wales/Llanishen) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week according to an announcement by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Ward posted the top 5,000 meter time in the MVC since 2014 and broke his own school record with a time of 13:54.49 Friday at the Stanford Invitational.  His time was good for seventh in the field and is 11th in the nation this spring.  Ward topped his own personal best time by four seconds Friday at Stanford and now owns the seventh best time among individuals in the NCAA West Region.

A biochemistry major, Ward owns a 3.81 cumulative grade point average.  In addition to owning the top 5,000 meter time in the MVC this spring, his season-opening 1,500 meter time of 3:48.75 at the Bill Cornell Spring Classic in late March is second-best in the conference in 2016.

To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.

Ward and the Bradley men's track & field team will be back in action Saturday at the Gibson Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.
