PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior women's tennis standout Ariel Dechter (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after becoming the winningest player in Bradley women's tennis history last week.
Dechter teamed with sophomore Aimee Manfredo for a 7-6 win at No. 2 doubles in Saturday's Missouri Valley Conference opener at Illinois State to equal Teri Chan's school record with her 115th combined singles and doubles win. She then gave the Braves their first point of the night and claimed the school wins record outright by earning a default victory at No. 1 singles. Dechter now owns 66 career singles victories and 50 doubles wins. An accounting major, Dechter owns a 3.73 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Dechter and the Bradley women's tennis team open a four-match MVC home stand Saturday with a 10 a.m. contest against Southern Illinois.
