NORMAN, Okla. -- Former Bradley men's golf standout Lyle Burns (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet/Parkland) has been named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar according to an announcement by the Golf Coaches Association of America Wednesday afternoon.

Burns is one 212 NCAA Division I golfers and one of just three individuals from the Missouri Valley Conference to earn the distinction.  A recent Bradley graduate, Burns boasted a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average during the 2016 Spring semester and the business management and leadership major finished his career on The Hilltop with a 3.87 cumulative grade point average.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.

Burns was an All-Missouri Valley Conference performer as a senior and the 2016 Charles Orsborn Award finalist also garnered First-Team MVC Scholar-Athlete honors for the second straight year in 2015-16.  He was a four-time MVC Golfer of the Week award winner as a senior and claimed medalist honors three times this past year.

Bradley's career stroke average leader with a 73.79 average, Burns ranked second on the team and fourth in the MVC with a 73.06 stroke average last year.  His season average ranks second among Bradley season marks and he posted two of the top six season stroke averages in Bradley history after transferring from Parkland College for his final two years.

Despite only two years on The Hilltop, Burns has the most career sub-70 rounds in school history and capped his career with a sixth-place finish at the 2016 MVC Championship.  He posted eight top-10 finishes last year and his 54-hole score of 205 at last fall's Austin Peay Invitational is the lowest in program history.
