Bradley Student-Athletes Earn MVC Academic Honors

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Missouri Valley Conference recognized a total of 172 Bradley student-athletes with Friday's announcement of the 2015-16 MVC Academic Awards. Helping highlight the lengthy list of honorees is senior women's runner Elena Danielson (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral), who owns a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average.

A cell and molecular biology major, Danielson was one of eight Braves to receive the President's Council Academic Excellence Award, with all eight Bradley recipients owning 4.00 semester grade point averages during the 2016 Spring term.

The Braves boasted eight of the 66 MVC student-athletes who earned the league's President's Council Academic Excellence Award, which required a minimum 3.8 cumulative grade point average (through the Spring 2016 semester), participation in athletics a minimum of two years and the student-athlete must be within 18 hours of graduation. Joining Danielson in the group for Bradley were women's cross country/track & field teammates Lauren Houmes and Liz Smits, men's runners Alex DiVerde and Thomas Razo, men's golfer Lyle Burns, Andrew Kovacevic from soccer and softball's Kathryn Spenn.

Of the 172 Bradley student-athletes named to the MVC Honor Roll for posting a minimum 3.2 grade point average during the 2015-16 school year, 70 also garnered the Commission's Academic Excellence Award, which requires a 3.5 minimum grade point average for the previous two semesters.

The women's cross country/track and field teams had 23 individuals earn the Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award and a total of 31 squad members earned a spot on the MVC Honor Roll.

Bradley had 20 First-Team MVC Scholar-Athlete selections in 2015-16, two short of matching the school record, and the Braves boasted six CoSIDA Academic All-District honorees for the highest total since 2010-11.
