Cross Country Teams Strong In Season Opener

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Bradley men's and women's cross country teams sent a small group of individuals to the season-opening Hawkeye Early Bird, with junior Haran Dunderdale pacing the men's squad and sophomore Sara Piller leading the women's team.

With several of the Braves' top performers sitting out the season-opening event, the Bradley men finished ninth and the women were eighth in the team standings.

On the men's side, Dunderdale covered the 6K course in a time of 18:41.6 to finish 17^th overall and lead the Braves. Senior Steffen Uhrich was 10 seconds back in 31^st at 18:51.5 and redshirt freshman Kerry Gschwendtner was 54^th overall at 19:21.4 in his collegiate debut. Fellow redshirt freshman David Rodriguez was also strong in his debut, taking 57^th at 19:24.8.

Piller led a pack of 12 Braves in the women's 3K, crossing the line in 26^th at 10:48.3, to outkick freshman Rachel Iacofano, who was 28^th in 10:50.3. Freshman Sam Lechowicz was seven seconds back of Piller in 34^th (10:55.7), while junior Nicole Alfano (36^th – 10:57.2) and junior Casey Kramer (37^th – 10:58.8) helped pace the Bradley women.

The Bradley men's and women's cross country teams host the 30^th Bradley Intercollegiate Friday, Sept. 16 at Detweiller Park in the first of three home meets.
