Men’s Golf Tied For Fifth; Bushong Fourth At Derek Dolenc Invite

MADISON, Ill. – Sophomore Drake Bushong (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) is tied for fourth in the individual standings at one-under 141 and the Bradley men's golf team is tied for fifth in the field after two rounds of play at the fourth annual Derek Dolenc Invitational.
 
Bushong is the lone Brave in the top 20 in a tie for fourth at one-under par 141 at the par-71 Gateway National Golf Links.  He opened play by matching a season-best 71 in the opening round and was one shot better in the afternoon at one-under 70.  Bushong heads into Tuesday's final round seven shots back of Missouri State's Jack Knoesel (134), who holds a four-shot lead, and just three back of second place.
 
Bradley finished Monday's action tied with Nebraska-Omaha for fifth at 19-over 587.  Missouri State leads the field at 12-over par 580, while tournament-host SIU Edwardsville and Murray State are three shots back in a tie for second (583).  South Dakota is one shot ahead of the Braves and UNO in fourth (586).  Bradley holds a two-shot edge on seventh-place UT-Martin (589) in the 15-team field.  Missouri Valley Conference rival Northern Iowa is ninth overall at 592 (+24). 
 
Sophomore Branden Mounce (El Paso, Ill./El Paso-Gridley/Illinois State) had the low round of the day for the Braves with a season-best, two-under 69 in the second round.  Mounce opened play with a 77 and is tied for 21st overall, five shots behind Bushong at 146. 
 
Junior Ethan Brue (Chandlerville, Ill./AC Central/Illinois Central) had rounds of 72 and 76 to close the day in a tie for 27th (148) and has now carded all eight rounds this season at 76 or better.  Senior Bobby Jacobs (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) is tied for 57th at 154, turning in rounds of 76 and 78 Monday. 
 
Junior Zach Jewell (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone/Illinois Central) rebounded from a first-round 81 to fire a second-round 76 and is tied for 68th (157).  Fellow junior Matthew Specht (Munster, Ind./Munster) is in the field as an individual and is tied with Jewell at 157 in 68th (78-79).
 
The final round of the Derek Dolenc Invitational is scheduled to tee off Tuesday at 8 a.m.
