Women’s Golf Sixth After Day One At Redbird Invite

NORMAL, Ill. – Four Braves turned in career-best rounds during the opening day of the 2016-17 season and the Bradley women's golf team is sixth in the 14-team field at the Redbird Invitational after 36 holes Sunday at the par-72 Wiebring Golf Club.
 
Bradley was tied for eighth in the team standings after an opening round 310, but a second-round 299, which tied for the 19th lowest round in school history, helped the Braves move into sixth in the 14-team field at the end of the day.  Redbird Invitational Day One Results
 
Sophomore Frankie Saban (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) is the leader in the clubhouse for Bradley and is tied for 10th at 149, nine shots off the lead.  Saban carded the lowest opening round of the day for the Braves with a career-best three over 75 and was one shot better in the afternoon with a two-over 74. 
 
Fellow sophomore Chloe Horton (Coral Gables, Fla./Ransom Everglades) had the day's best score among the Bradley participants with a career-best 72 in the afternoon.  Horton had a 78 in the first round and is one shot behind Saban in 15th (150). 
 
Junior Ally Scaccia (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) is one shot out of the top 20 in a tie for 21st at 152, turning in rounds of 78 and 74.  Freshman Taylor Ledwein (New Prague, Minn./New Prague) was strong in her debut with a pair of 79's to close Sunday's action tied for 49th at 158.  Junior Grace Henderson (Peachtree Corners, Ga./Blessed Trinity) rounded out the team scoring for the Braves in a tie for 71st (163 – 82-81). 
 
The Braves also had four individuals in the field, paced by freshman Megan Medinger (Moline, Ill./Moline).  Medinger is tied for 16th individually at 151, firing rounds of 78 and 73 in her first two collegiate rounds. 
 
Sophomore Brooke Thompson (Jefferson City, Mo./Jefferson City) shot a career-best 78 in the first round of the season and is tied for 45th (157), while sophomore Sydney Shaw (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) is two shots back in a tie for 52nd (159) after a career-best 77 to open the year.  Junior Lexi Hammerton (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap/Rend Lake) also made her Bradley debut and is tied for 63rd at 161. 
 
Boston College and in-state foe Northern Illinois are tied for the team lead with 36-hole scores of 597.  Florida Gulf Coast is second in the team standings at 599 and Butler is fourth overall at 604.  Tournament-host Illinois State sits in fifth at 607, two shots ahead of sixth-place Bradley (609). 
 
The Braves hold a four-shot edge on seventh-place Southern Illinois (613) and 12-shot advantage on eighth-place Ball State (621).  Bowling Green and Western Illinois enter the final round tied for ninth at 623, with Drake (11th – 624), Ohio (12th – 625), Evansville (13th – 626) and Loyola (14th – 629) completing the field. 
 
The final round of the Redbird Invitational is scheduled to tee off Monday at 8:30 a.m.
