ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Freshman forward Chelsea Brackmann (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week according to an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.
 
Brackmann averaged 15.0 points, 16.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals in a pair of road games last week as Bradley wrapped up a program record seven-game road swing.  In Friday's overtime contest at Indiana State she collected her first career double-double with season-highs of 23 points and 19 rebounds. 
 
Her 23 points were the most in game by a Bradley freshman since the 2009-10 season and she tied the school record for rebounds in a game by a freshman with her 19 boards to match the record set by senior Leti Lerma during the 2013-14 season.  In addition, Brackmann turned in just the third performance in school history of at least 19 points and 19 rebounds and first since Bradley Hall of Fame member Shelli Braud collected 32 points and 20 rebounds at Northern Iowa on Jan. 17, 1988. 
 
Brackmann followed up her historic performance at Indiana State with seven points, 13 rebounds, two blocks and two steals in 24 minutes to help highlight Bradley's road win at Loyola Sunday.
 
Bradley's first MVC Newcomer of the Week selection since midway through the 2014-15 season, Brackmann is averaging 9.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.  She has averaged 12.0 points and 12.7 rebounds per outing in MVC play and is second in the Valley in free throw attempts per game at 6.2 per contest.  Brackmann's 55 made free throws through 14 games rank seventh among Bradley freshman marks. 
 
Brackmann and the Bradley women's basketball team host preseason MVC favorite Drake Friday at 7 p.m. to kick off a stretch in which the Braves play six of the next eight games at Renaissance Coliseum.
