Tennis to play in 2017 MVC Individual Championships

NORMAL, IL—Bradley Tennis will travel to Illinois State to begin the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships. The tournament begins Saturday and will continue through Monday at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts in Normal, IL.

Each day will include one round of play for doubles and one round for singles. Saturday will begin with doubles quarterfinals, followed by singles quarterfinals for all flights. Sunday will continue play in the semifinals for both doubles and singles, adding action in the losers' brackets. Monday will see the conclusion of the tournament with first-, third- and fifth-place matches in doubles play, followed by championship and third-place matches in singles.

With Alejandra de Lasa and Aimee Manfredo still out due to injury, Bradley will send five of its seven players to compete for MVC championships. Following her victory in Singles Flight A at the Bradley Invitational, freshman Sandra Maletin will play in Flight 1 Singles and once again pair with Natalia Barbery in Flight 1 Doubles. Barbery will play in Flight 2 Singles. Alexa Brandt and Malini Wijesinghe will team up in Flight 2 Doubles. Brandt will compete in Flight 3 Singles, while Wijesinghe plays in Flight 4 Singles. Victoria Gonzalez will play in Flight 5 Singles but will not participate in doubles action.
