MACOMB, IL - For the first time in the 28-game history of the series, local rivals Bradley (9-7-2) and Western Illinois (5-8-1) battled to a scoreless draw Tuesday afternoon at John Mackenzie Alumni Field.

The final score was hardly indicative of the style of play, however, as the teams combined for 40 shots.  Bradley placed half of its 22 shots on target, but Leathernecks keeper Tim Trilk made 10 saves to earn the solo shutout.  Although Western Illinois managed 18 shots of its own, the hosts put only three on target.  Brandon Barnes recored three saves during regulation, while Albert Reinwart played the 20 minutes of overtime, but did not require a save to complete the shutout.

Bradley posted its second consecutive shutout against Western Illinois and the scoreless result leaves the Braves with a 16-10-2 advantage in a series that dates to Bradley's first season as a NCAA Division I program in 1987.

Bradley's best chance for the breakthrough goal may have come in the final seconds of the match, when Frank Bak cut to his right at the top of the penalty area to free himself for a clean shot, but his attempt to beat Trilk into the top right corner sailed just high at 109:26.

The best scoring chance for the hosts came in the 75th minute.  After Barnes was issued a yellow card for handling a back pass, Western Illinois was granted an indirect free kick from inside the penalty spot.  With the Braves shoulder-to-shoulder across the goal mouth, however, Fernando Pacheco's resulting shot never made it through the wall.

Barnes and Reinwart combined on Bradley's ninth shutout of the season, equalling the third-best single-season total in program history, and second consecutive clean sheet.  With the draw, Bradley will finish the regular-season with a 6-4-1 non-conference record and the Braves are guaranteed to finish the season at least .500 overall for the first time since the 2013 squad completed a 14-7-2 campaign in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Braves will conclude the regular season Saturday at Valparaiso, where Bradley will try to secure the No. 3 seed for next week's Missouri Valley Conference Men's Soccer Championship at Shea Stadium.
