OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Senior Matthew Specht made his return to the Bradley lineup with a first-round one-under par 71 and is tied for ninth individually as he helped the Bradley men's golf team finish the opening day of the Bill Ross Intercollegiate in fifth out of 12 teams.

Specht and fellow senior Ethan Brue both had one-under 71's to start the day at the par-72 Millburn Golf & Country Club.  The opening-round 71 was a season-best for Specht, who is tied for ninth overall at one-over par 145 after carding a second-round 74.

Bradley is fifth in the team standings at nine-over par 585, turning in rounds of 289 and 296 on the first day of action.  The Braves are five shots behind fourth-place SIU Edwardsville (580) and eight back of third-place South Dakota (577).  Grand Canyon closed Monday's play at four-under 572 and sits atop the team standings.  The Lopes will take a two-shot lead over second-place and tournament host UMKC (574) into Tuesday's final round.

One of four Missouri Valley Conference teams in the field, Bradley holds a one-shot advantage on sixth-place Missouri State (586) and seven-stroke edge on seventh-place Evansville (592).

In addition to Specht returning to the lineup, junior Michael Mounce is appearing in his first tournament since the season opener and junior Branden Mounce made his 2017-18 debut.

Branden Mounce fired a 72 in his first round of the year and was one of four Braves to card a 74 in the second round, finishing Monday one shot behind Specht in a tie for 13th at 146.

Senior Ethan Brue turned in a second-round 78 coupled with his opening round 71 and is tied with fellow senior Zach Jewell for 30th at 149.  Jewell opened play with a three-over 75 and was one shot better in the afternoon with a two-over 74.

Michael Mounce also had a better second round as he rebounded from a first-round 77 to shoot a 74 in the second round.  Michael is tied for 45th overall at 151 to round out the team scoring for the Braves.

The final round of the Bill Ross Intercollegiate will tee off Tuesday at 8:15 a.m.
