ST. LOUIS - Three members of the Bradley Soccer team have been selected for the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team, highlighed by three-time honoree Clark Emerson, according to the annual annoucement of the team by the league office Wednesday.

A senior from Grand Prairie, TX (Mansfield Lake Ridge H.S.), Emerson is one of six players on the 14-man MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team boasting a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average.  The finance major is the only 2017 honoree making his third appearance on the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team.  Emerson joins Stephen Wylie (1996, 1998, 1999); Dan Thorstenson (1998-99-00); and Chris Dunsheath (2003-04-05) as the only four Bradley Soccer players to earn MVC Scholar-Athlete First Time in all three years of the award's eligibility.

Emerson was joined on the MVC Scholar-Athlete first team by fellow Bradley senior defenders  Falk Dennert (Homburg, Germany/Heinrich-Heine Gymnasium) and Jacob Taylor (Dunlap, IL/Dunlap H.S.).  Together, the trio of Bradley backs helped the Braves post 10 shutouts during the 2017 season while orchestrating the most-improved won-loss record in the country.

Emerson played in 63 games during his four-year Bradley career, including 45 as a starter.  In addition to his defensive work, he contributed 10 points on three goals and four assists.

Majoring in mechanical engineering with a 3.61 cumulative GPA, Taylor is a repeat MVC Scholar-Athlete first-team selection.  He ended his career Friday tied for seventh in Bradley history with 77 career starts, while recording 27 points on seven goals and 13 assists.  His 13 assists ranks second (Grant Bell, 19) all-time among players who primarily played in defensive positions during their Bradley careers.

An international business major with a 3.86 cumulative grade point average, Dennert makes his first appearance on the MVC Scholar-Athlete team.  He played in 50 career games for the Braves, including 33 as a starter, finishing with six points on two goals and two assists.

The criteria for the all-MVC honor parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.00 scale). Also, students must have participated in at least 75 percent of the regular-season matches or played in the league tournament. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution
