PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior catcher Maria Schroeder (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after going 8-for-15 at the plate at the season-opening Grand Canyon Kickoff tournament.

Schroeder had hits in all five games in Phoenix, Ariz., and scored or drove in 10 of Bradley's 25 runs.  She ripped four doubles and scored six times in addition to driving in four other runs, while boasting an .800 slugging percentage and .588 on base percentage.  In the season opener against Northern Colorado, Schroeder was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and one RBI.  She was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI in the first of three matchups with Grand Canyon Friday night and was 1-for-3 in rematches with both teams Saturday.  Schroeder was hit by pitch twice Sunday against Grand Canyon and added a two-out single in the bottom of the eighth to cap the opening weekend.  A marketing (social media) major, Schroeder owns a 3.81 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Schroeder and the Bradley Softball team are back in action this weekend, opening play at the Troy Cox Classic in Las Cruces, N.M. Friday with a 2:30 p.m. (CST) game against Northern Colorado.
