NORMAL, Ill. – Junior
Matthew Specht fired a pair of two-over 73's and was two shots behind medalist Christian
Crabill of Illinois State in a tie for third at 146 to pace the Bradley men's golf team at the I-74 Individual Challenge Saturday.
The Braves and I-74 rival Illinois State met for the fourth consecutive year for a one-day spring tournament at the par-71 Weibring Golf Club. The teams each boasted three of the top six in the field and four of the top eight with
Crabill claiming top honors in the field at two-over 144.
Specht was the top individual for Bradley in a tie for third at four-over 146, after carding matching two-over 73's during Saturday's action.
Last year's co-medalist, sophomore
Drake Bushong tied with fellow Bradley sophomore
Michael Mounce for fifth in the field at five-over 147. Bushong ran his streak of consecutive sub-80 rounds to 26 with scores of 75 and 72 and is now the sixth player in school history to have 25 sub-80 rounds in two different seasons.
Mounce was the leader after he tied a season-best with a first-round 71, but slipped into fifth in the final standings at 147 after a 76 second round.
Junior
Zach Jewell had rounds of 75 and 73 to tie for seventh overall at 148. Sophomore
Branden Mounce and freshman
Charles Jahn were both one shot behind Jewell in a tie for ninth (149).
Branden Mounce had rounds of 73 and 76 Saturday, while Jahn had a 75 in his first round as a Brave only to improve by one shot in the afternoon with a 74.
Senior
Bobby Jacobs had matching rounds of 75 to finish 13
th in the field at 150, while sophomore
Daniel Lensing was one back in 14
th (151) with scores of 77 and 74 Saturday.
Junior
Ethan Brue tied with sophomore
Alex Ciaramitaro for 15
th at 153. Brue followed up a morning round of 78 with a 75 for his 25
th round in the 70's this season. Ciaramitaro made his 2016-17 debut and chased a first-round 77 with a career-best 76 in the afternoon.
Freshman
Yuan "Leo" Li also made his Bradley debut Saturday and had a 78 in his first round as a Brave. Li went on to finish 19
th overall at 164.
Bradley returns to action next weekend, traveling to Bloomington, Ind., for the Hoosier Invitational April 1 & 2.
