CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Freshman
Taylor Ledwein is tied for fourth and the Bradley women's golf team is second in the team standings after one round of play at the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship Sunday.
Expected inclement weather in the afternoon forced the teams to get an early start Sunday with the squads opening play with an 8 a.m. shotgun start rather than the originally scheduled tee times starting at 10 a.m.
The Braves carded an opening-round 308 at the par-72 Dalhousie Country Club Sunday to finish the day six shots behind Missouri State (302) for the lead. Bradley owns a two-shot advantage on third-place Northern Iowa (310) and will head into Monday's second round with a five-shot edge on three-time defending MVC Champion Wichita State, which is fourth overall at 313.
Ledwein is the top individual for the Braves at two-over 74, closing Sunday's action in a tie for fourth. She is five shots behind Missouri State's Verena Gimmy, who is atop the leaderboard at three-under 69. Ledwein's first-round 74 was her team-leading 27
th sub-80 round of the year.
Sophomore
Chloe Horton is two shots back of Ledwein in a tie for 10
th after firing a four-over 76 as she turned in her 20
th round in the 70's of 2016-17.
Junior
Ally Scaccia carded her 10
th consecutive sub-80 round with a 78 Sunday and is tied for 13
th overall. Scaccia and Ledwein both have a team-best 27 sub-80 rounds this season, which is tied for the third-best season total in school history.
Sophomore
Frankie Saban and junior
Grace Henderson are both tied for 26
th after opening-round 80's to round out the scoring for the Braves. The pair sit one shot out of the top 20 and four out of the top 10.
The second round of the MVC Championship is slated to tee off Monday at 1 p.m.
