Daniel Gagne (Wauwatosa, Wis./East) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after qualifying for the NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships in the 1,500 meters.
Gagne took fourth in his 1,500 meter heat Thursday at the NCAA West Preliminary with a time of 3:56.35 to reach Saturday's national quarterfinals, where he clocked a 4:00.46 to finish fourth in his heat. One of 24 individuals to advance to the national semifinals in the 1,500 meters, Gagne became the first Bradley men's track & field individual to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championship since the mid-1970's. An accounting major, Gagne owns a 3.68 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Gagne will head to Eugene, Ore., for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship, with the 1,500 meter national semifinals slated for 6:46 p.m. (CDT) on Wednesday, June 7. The national championship for the 1,500 meters will be held Friday, June 9 at 7:42 p.m. (CDT).
