Norman, OK — The Golf Coaches Association of America recognized the Bradley Men's Golf team as a 2017 All-Academic Team on Wednesday.
A college or university must submit the grade point averages for each player on its official squad list for the academic year in order to be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors. To qualify as an All-Academic Team, the team must have a cumulative 3.0 or better grade point average for the year.
With a cumulative 3.41 GPA for the 2016-17 academic year, Bradley is one of 102 NCAA Division I teams nationwide to be recognized has an All-Academic Team.
The 2017 Bradley squad is highlighted by a trio of Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes: senior Bobby Jacobs, sophomore Drake Bushong, and junior Zach Jewell.
Jacobs is a two-time First-Team MVC Scholar-Athlete and was a CoSIDA Academic All-District V pick in 2015-16. A civil engineering major with a 4.00 cumulative GPA, Jacobs finished his collegiate career with 57 career sub-80 rounds, ranking 25th all-time at Bradley. Jacobs is also a four-time member of the MVC Honor Roll and a four-time recipient of the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award as well as a 2017 MVC President's Council Academic Award recipient.
Bushong set a school season record with 34 sub-80 rounds while posting six top-10 finishes. With the lowest career stroke average in school history (73.49 per round) he was Bradley's top finisher in three events during the 2017 season, including the MVC Championship (14th). Bushong is a two-time member of the MVC Honor Roll and was awarded the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award this year.
Finishing the 2016-17 season with a 76.14 stroke average, Jewell was fourth on the team and was one of three individuals to play all 35 rounds. A marketing major with a 3.74 cumulative GPA, Jewell posted five top-10 finishes and placed in the top 20 six times. At the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate in Springfield, Mo., he tied the lowest score in school history with 66 in the final round. Jewel's 75.85 career stroke average ranks sixth all-time on The Hilltop.
In addition to the squad's three Scholar-Athletes, 10 of the team's 12 members are members of the MVC Honor Roll with a minimum 3.20 GPA and a minimum 12 hours of enrollment for the specified term. Six of the 10 Honor Roll members are also recipients of the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award.
