Game Recap: Soccer | | Bobby Parker, Associate AD for Communications
PEORIA, IL – The Bradley soccer team lost a close contest to Northwestern on Tuesday, 1-0, at the ninth-annual Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game at Shea Stadium.

The Wildcats tallied the game's only goal in the ninth minute when an unfortunate bounce off a Bradley defender led to an open shot from Elo Ozumba just six yards from goal and Ozumba buried his chance in the right netting for the 1-0 lead.

The Braves had their opportunities throughout the night to tie the game but just missed on a number of chances. In the first half, Alex Ciaramitaro saw his header off a corner kick going toward the far post but a Wildcat defender was there to clear the line. Just a couple minutes later, a Bradley goal was disallowed for offside.

In the second stanza, Jacob Taylor saw his header off a couple quick passes from a free kick miss high. The team's best chance then came in the 74th minute when Younes Dayekh's shot from distance hit the crossbar and remained out as Northwestern would secure the 1-0 exhibition victory.

Bradley finished the game with a slight edge in shots, 14-13, with a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Braves now turn their attention toward the regular season with the team's first game in 10 days. Bradley opens the 2017 campaign on Aug. 25 against UT Rio Grande Valley at the Houston Baptist Invitational.

TAYLOR EARNS SCHOLARSHIP
Senior captain Jacob Taylor was announced as the recipient of the Danny Dahlquist Memorial Endowed Scholarship. The son of longtime Bradley University staff members Craig and Tricia Dahlquist, Danny grew up around Bradley Soccer with a dream of one day playing for the Braves. After making the team as a redshirt freshman in 2006, that dream ended tragically when Danny died in a house fire Aug. 12, 2007.

An All-Missouri Valley Conference Honorable Mention honoree in 2015, Taylor appeared in 56 career games on defense, totaling seven goals and seven assists.
